Vader - Kingdom Review

.
In 1998 Polish death metal masters Vader released their second mini-CD, Kingdom. Years later it has been remastered and also had two electronic tracks tacked onto the end of the four track masterpiece. The updated Kingdom sound is packed with intense riffs and thrashing Slayer-like solos. This new sound could easily be mistaken for newer Napalm Death. The MCD (mini CD)'s opening track '"Creature of Light and Day" opens with an intense Slayer meets Cannibal Corpse riff and is then followed up with a bouncy verse that is part bouncy bass line, part talking Pantera Phil Anselmo spoken vocals. Bassist Leszek "Shambo" Karchut's bass parts on the album are performed by Vader's most recent addition Marcin "Novy" Nowak. Tracks "Kingdom" and "Breath of Centuries" have Morbid Angel spooky synths that really just make the songs sound much more complete than in 1998's version. Both songs also have that tight Dying Fetus snare drum sound and Slayer Reign in Blood face-melting solos. The odd things about the CD are the two remixed songs added on at the end. The songs create their own brand of industrial death metal. "For Internal Darkness/Quicksilver Blood Mix" has a small amount of work done by guitars and the drum parts are replaced by computer electronics. It sounds like the Dust Brothers on their efforts on the Fight Club soundtrack. The other industrial death metal track "Inhuman Disaster Mix" has a much more dance sound with some epic brutal vocal parts and an electronic horns section. The vocals by Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek on the track sound as if he's telling some epic story. The change from 1998's Vader is very apparent and the remastered Kingdom is crisp and tight. Some of the MCD changes are slightly less obvious and little seems to be done here and there. But it is regardless a classic thrash/death metal that any fan should have. 1. Creatures of Light and Darkness 2. Breath of Centuries 3. Kingdom 4. Anamnesis 5. Inhuman Disaster Mix 6. For Internal Darkness/Quicksilver Blood Mix
